Rum Rhum Ron

The main business of the St. Maarten Guavaberry Co. has always been rum. First came Guavaberry (Rum) the National Liqueur of Dutch and French St. Martin. Then came a range of exotic fruit liqueurs, mango, lime, island orange, passion fruit etc.

With the Republic Rum brand we offer high quality flavourful vintage rums to be compared with old cognacs.All of these are still made on Frontstreet, Philipsburg, at the venerable Guavaberry Emporium.

Guavaberry

Guavaberry is the legendary folk liqueur of St. Maarten. It was first made here centuries ago in private homes. Read more about it in our History section.

It is made from fine oak aged rum, cane sugar and ripe local guavaberries, each berry picked by hand. The fruit is found in the warm hills in the center of the island.

The aged liqueur has a woody, fruity, spicy, bitter-sweet flavour all of its own.

Old Oranjestad Rum with Guavaberry

This fine rum liqueur salutes Oranjestad, the capital of sister island Sint Eustatius, the Golden Rock of the 18th century, the busiest port in the Caribbean and influential in the American Revolution.

Old Oranjestad Orange Rum is made with old oak aged rums and flavourful wild Caribbean oranges and with a small amount of local guavaberries.

You can drink it straight in a rum snifter or with ice and it makes a wide variety of delectable cocktails.

Vaanilla

Vanilla is the endlessly exotic and fabled fruit of the vanilla orchid plant, famed as aphrodisiac, medicinal herb and healing and restorative aromatic.

It was transported by commerce minded adventurers in the 1600s to rain-forested lands across the globe, Africa, the Indian Ocean islands, Asia, the South Pacific and the Caribbean.

Guavaberry Brand Island Vaanilla Golden Rum Liqueur is made with vanilla beans which are grown and harvested in the Caribbean.

Mango

Mangoes reached the Caribbean in the mid 17th century, brought by the Dutch from New Holland (1630-54) which soon became a part of Northern Brasil.

To eat a good mango properly requires a certain degree of concentration. There is an old saying that the best place to really enjoy a mango is in the warm clear waters of a Caribbean beach, or in the bath.

Island Almond

In the 14th century when people in the rest of Europe suffered coarse aqua vitae, high living Italians indulged in a sweet alcoholic drink called "liquore", the first liqueur.

Almond was an early flavouring and there are beautiful stories that associate the almond liqueur with wealthy young widows, poor artists and everlasting love.

Guavaberry Brand Island Almond Golden Rum Liqueur is the Amaretto of the Caribbean.

Passion Fruit

In the New World the ancient Mayans used the passion-fruit for its flavour and for its medicinal value.

In the Old World the passion fruit and the passion flower were closely associated with Christianity and was once offered exclusively to the Pope and other souls in high places.

Guavaberry Brand Passion Fruit Rum Liqueur combines Passion Fruit and select golden Caribbean Rums with a tiny hint of Vanilla from Guadeloupe.

Wild Lime

It is written that Columbus brought the Limes of Arabia to the Caribbean on his second voyage of exploration. The juice was a big hit with the locals and visitors.

Limes provided essential nutrients to sailors on long sea journeys making great distance and conquest possible. British warriors where nicknamed Limeys.

Then, lime juice was fortified with rum, a preservative. From Olde Havana to the Spanish Main, for hundreds of years, rum and lime has been a match made in heaven.

Republic Rum Five Years Old

Some years ago after many years in the making, we released our Republic Rum, an unsweetened golden blend of the finest Caribbean Rums, the youngest of which was aged in oak for five years.

Republic Rum is a sipping quality golden spirit of the Caribbean but if all recipes depend on the quality of their ingredients, this rum will add depth and flavour to all Caribbean rum cocktails, traditional or moderne.
